CSRPO
CALIFORNIA STATE RACE RULES
With amendments as of 1-22-2011
1. Entries are open to paid-up members of CSRPO over the age of 18
years. Each member can request one entry ($75) or two entries ($150).
Perches will be awarded one per member through January 31st or until all
available perches are filled, whichever comes first. After January 31st
if all available perches have not been filled with one per member,
second perches will be awarded via a drawing of members who have
submitted two entry fees. Those who are unsuccessful in the drawing will
have their second entry fee refunded. If all requests for second perches
can be accommodated there will be no drawing and no refunds. Entries
will continue to be accepted (one or two per member, first come first
served) until all perches are filled. The Loft Manager and his convoyer
are not allowed to enter the race they handle. They are guaranteed
entries in the following year’s race, if they wish. However, they must
pay the required entry fees by the due dates.
2. All
revenues will be received by the CSRPO Secretary-Treasurer on behalf of
the convention host organization. 85% of the entry fees will be
impounded for prizes. There are three entry fees for the State Race (an
initial fee, a final entry fee for the first race, and a final entry fee
for the second race). The initial fee is $75 and is not refundable
unless there is a drawing. These initial fees will be accepted for next
year’s race, starting on the first day of the Annual CSRPO Convention.
3. The
California State Race is comprised of one short race (about 100 miles)
and one long race (250-300 miles). The final entry fee of $100 per race
must be paid prior to countermarking and crating of birds during each
race shipping night. If any entrant is unable to attend a shipping
night, they have the right to mail in their options to the
Secretary-Treasurer or to delegate a fellow member with a signed note to
act on their behalf. Only the entrant or a member with a note signed by
the entrant will be allowed to handle the entrant’s bird during shipping
night. If the $100 fee is not paid when the bird is shipped, the
Secretary-Treasurer will hold a drawing, one ticket per interested CSRPO
senior member present. The winner pays the $100 and will receive 57% of
any capital winnings for that bird. This will be done for each race.
4. Entrants will have the right to buyback/calcutta their bird for an
additional $125 during first race shipping night. This includes $25 for
buyback and $100 for the first race calcutta.
Optionally, this can be increased to $200 to include prepaid calcutta
for both races (a savings of $25 off the first race calcutta). The $200
fee will be split, first race $75 calcutta/$25 buyback and second race
$100 calcutta. Prepaid birds that do not go to the second race will have
their $100 calcutta fee refunded. CSRPO State Race Complete Rules Page 2
If the prepaid calcutta fee is paid separately for the two races it will
be $100 each. Only entrants who prepaid calcutta for the first race will
be eligible to prepay calcutta for the
second race. All birds without prepaid calcutta will go into the
calcutta pool for that race. Calcutta bidding shall start at $100. Birds
not bid in the calcutta will not be included in the
calcutta pool. Birds not bought back become the property of the host
organization. They can be purchased after the race, for the next 7 days
only, by any flyer for $50, first-come-first served.
5. 5% of all entry fees, plus 100% of all buyback fees, will be retained
by the convention host organization to cover expenses. 10% of all entry
fees will be retained by CSRPO to
cover race correspondence and mailings done by the CSRPO
Secretary-Treasurer. When the loft is picked up by the next State Race
sponsor, the previous Loft Manager will provide a complete inventory
list to the new Loft Manager and will send a copy to the CSRPO
Secretary-Treasurer. CSRPO will reimburse the host club for actual
repairs approved by the Board and made to the loft. Upon the birds’
return from the State Race and before the birds are returned to their
owner (if bought back) or auctioned, the Loft Manager will remove the
bands and place them in the State Race Loft Inventory to be passed along
to the next Loft Manager. When the loft and its inventory are delivered
to the next Loft Manager he will purchase more electronic bands
sufficient to band all birds prior to road training.
6. 85% of
the entry fees per race will be paid in prizes no later than 1 week
after that race.
25% 1st ($3000 guaranteed for a single first place bird)
20% 2nd
10% 3rd
5% 4th
5% 5th
20% divided by 6th thru 11th
15% divided by 12th thru 21st
7. Birds
must be shipped or brought to the state loft between May 1st and June
1st. If an entrant fails to get their bird to the loft by June
1st, the Loft Manager will contact people on the reserve list (in the
order listed) until a reservist is found who can send a bird
immediately. The reserve list will be composed of those who sought to
enter the race after it was filled (in the order of contact). The birds
will be trained to at least 150 air miles by one week prior to the race,
weather permitting. At the discretion of the host organization, an
inventory or inventories of the remaining birds will be published on the
CSRPO website. No other specific information regarding which birds are
in the loft shall be released to the members. CSRPO State Race Complete
Rules Page 3 Birds will be shipped to the short race on Thursday and
released on Friday, weather permitting. Birds will be shipped to the
long race on Saturday and released on Sunday, weather and bird condition
permitting. It is the responsibility of the Race Committee to assure
that the birds are not released in inclement weather. The Race
Committee, chaired by the Vice President in charge of the convention
city Section, shall consist of the three CSRPO Vice Presidents plus the
Loft Manager. The CSRPO President can appoint replacements. Race
Committee decisions are final. The CSRPO Vice President of the area
hosting the convention will be responsible to make sure the birds are
being handled and trained properly. He should receive a training
schedule and witness a return of any training toss. If all prizes have
not been won by 30 minutes after sunset on the 3rd
day, the remaining prizes will be divided among the birds that have
homed, in a proportion equal to their share of the prizes already
awarded.
